About Trialsworx
This two-day event will feature some of the finest Biketrial riders from Canada, the United States and overseas. These riders will manoeuver their bikes over some of the most difficult terrain in the world. This event will be an all age, all category competition where riders can test their skill and balance against some of the best Whistler terrain and man made obstacles. Last years event topped 100 riders
The main showcase sections will be in the centre of the Whistler Village where visibility is at its highest and the riders will perform spectacular moves just a few feet away from the spectators. For the natural terrain the best viewing areas are at the Fitzsimmons Creek sections. This year we hope for the first time there will be a section at the base of Whistler in front of thousands of spectators!
Main Competition - Expert, Elite and Masters...
Riders from all ages and abilities will be welcome… from 3 year olds maneuvering through a challenging course to some of the top Biketrial riders in the world defying gravity while maintaining their balance.
Every competitor from the young kids to the top competitors will be announced as they enter the main “sections”, with all the young first time competitors receiving a medal and a huge round of applause from spectators and family.
The competition will begin Friday afternoon with a free kids competition followed by the Novice, Femina, Poussin and Sport categories. Saturday morning will have the Expert, Master and Elite riders ending in the early afternoon leaving plenty of time to get ready for Slopestyle.
Saturday morning the Expert, Elite and Master riders compete. Expected Elite riders are last year’s winner Jeff Anderson (also the 2007 Canadian champion and fresh off a 4th place finish at a World Championship Event in Shanghai China), Swedish champion Thomas Ohler, Masashi Ishiguro from Japan and a large group of young local riders who are amazing to watch including Steve Baia from Anmore. New this year is a Master Category which is for professional riders over 32 who are still actively involved in the sport they love and are willing to demonstrate the strength and skill that Biketrials demands, and of course to have some fun. Three years ago Hans Rey competed and last year US rider Jeff Lenosky was here sharing their experience and mingling with their many fans.
Kids Competition and the rest...
The competitions start Friday August 15th with the Kidsworx Biketrials Competition. Kids under 10 are welcome (even with training wheels). Watch as 30-40 kids manoeuvre through actual Biketrials sections while mom, dad, granny and gramps cheer them through! The adults seem to have as much fun as the kids! All the competitors receive a medal and a huge round of applause! Secret Cycles have also donated a cool 20 inch wheeled Miele bike as a draw prize for the kids! Don’t forget your cameras!
Immediately after the Kids competition on Friday the Novice, Poussin, Sport and Femina riders compete. These are the kids as well as adults who are just starting out and love to have crowds cheering them on. Anyone who rides cross country or down hill even at the most beginners’ level is welcome to test their balancing skills in these categories. The real keen riders from Kidsworx would have no problem competing in the Poussin beginner category.
Prize Money
The total prize money available will be minimum $1600 with the Elite winner taking home minimum $600. Expert, Master and Elite riders will receive cash prizes and Novice, Femina, Poussin and Sport riders receive gift cards.
There will also be draw prizes with all riders eligible.
Sections
There will be 6 sections of which 2 and possibly 3 of them will be in the middle of the village for visibility and ease of viewing. These will be “man made” type sections. One will be in the Town Plaza and the other will be in the creek at Village Common. We are also hoping to have a section at the base of the mountain. The others will be within a few minutes walk and will be “natural” type sections.
The natural sections will have the Expert and Elite riders in the Fitzsimmons creek area (the dry creek bed area), where the bridge and banks will be perfect viewing areas to watch the riders struggle up and down the massive boulders and logs. One of the sections in the Creek will also be a “speed” section with the quicker riders receiving a lower score.
The Novice and Sport riders will also have 1 or 2 sections in the village, with their natural sections in Rebagliati Park. The terrain in the park is perfect for riders of the intermediate level.
Demos
The Baia Brothers, Jason and Steve along with John Goodwin 13, and Mitchell Long 10 and Chantal Laurie 14 will be performing demos all week in Town Plaza which is by the gazebo. Every show is different and the boys will give you an idea of what can be accomplished on a bike at any age!
